Allen Bettis

Allen Bettis, principal of The Legacy Associates, LLC has over twenty years experience consulting with family businesses, owners, management groups, boards and family offices. He has provided consulting to companies across the U.S. and in Europe and is a frequent speaker to owners and professional groups on family business topics.

He is a contributor to a variety of publications and writes a regular column “Family Business Strategies” for The Business Journal.

Dr. Bettis is a member of the Family Firm Institute, an international association of family business advisors. He is vice-president of the National Association of Corporate Directors, Minnesota Chapter and president of the Council for Independent Managers (Twin Cities chapter.) Allen is an advisor to the family business programs at the University of St. Thomas ( Minneapolis ) and the University of Notre Dame.

Allen earned his doctorate in counseling psychology from Emory University, where his graduate research focused on helping managers maintain leadership effectiveness when work and family relationships overlap. He is a qualified civil mediator in Minnesota, and specializes in resolving family business conflicts.
