Michael Burnell
Michael Burnell is President of Bucephalus Management Advisors, a consulting firm located in North Hampton, NH. The firm provides advice to a wide range of clients specializing in the fields of M&A activities, turnaround assistance and corporate governance. Currently Mike serves on nine family and private boards and one public board. He has served on a total of 22 private and public boards. He is also President of a number of US subsidiaries of Emera, Inc. of Halifax , Nova Scotia, which are engaged in the energy field. In addition to these activities, he is active with two startup firms, one a MIT/Harvard Medical School effort focused on macular degeneration and the other supplying IT services to elder Americans.
Prior to his current position, Mike was involved with the turnaround for a number of underperforming companies in a variety of industries over a twenty year period. He served as CEO/COO/CFO with these firms. Prior to the turnaround work, he held senior financial and operating positions with major public companies including National Steel Corporation, Eastern Gas & Fuel Associates and Wheelabrator-Frye.
Mike has a BA from Cornell University with a major in Physics and an MBA from Harvard University. He has authored articles for the Harvard Business Review, M&A Today and was a 1998 finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition.
