Join the IFOB as we showcase the approach and leadership practices implemented during the past two years by Chalmers Insurance Group, a fourth-generation, family-owned businesss.  With a 160 year legacy, they are taking a unique approach to developing a highly motivated workforce.

Organizational brands are more transparent than ever. Current research data and trends show us that star performers (high performing and highly motivated) and new graduates are seeking out and selecting organizations based upon the brand of the organization. The brand that they are looking for includes meaningful work (innovative and transformative) and opportunities to develop. Stars want to work with other stars and they want to know that you are intentional about supporting their development.

Current National Trends:

  • Recent data released by Culture Amp clearly shows that development opportunities and leadership have 3-4 times a greater impact on the retention of star employees than their relationship with their immediate boss.
  • There are also recent compelling trends that suggest that organizations need to do much more than "engage" if they want to recruit and retain high potentials. The word "engagement" often limits our thinking.

Vince Pelote - Founder and Partner, daVinci Consulting
Vince is the Managing Partner and Executive Coach with daVinci Consulting.  He has been involved in leadership development since the early 1980’s when he was affiliated with McBer & Company in Boston, Ma. During the past 5 years, Vince Pelote has successfully coached more than 170 clients. He sees each coaching session as an opportunity to use his years of experience and knowledge in helping current clients achieve what is important to them. Vince’s deep understanding of human behavior and motivation, his talent for working with leaders at all levels, and his strong drive to see others succeed, makes him a sought after coach.

Steve Cote - President, Chalmers Insurance Group
A 1989 graduate of Bowdoin College and veteran youth basketball coach, Steve was promoted to President of Chalmers Insurance Group in January of 2014, the first non-family member to lead the Agency in its history.  A licensed Property and Casualty Insurance Agent in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, he has served as a trusted risk management advisor to individuals, families and businesses for over 25 years. Steve often represents Chalmers as an advisory board member to many carrier partners. Current and past advisory affiliations include: Hanover Insurance; Peerless/Liberty Mutual; Acadia Insurance; MMG Insurance; Main Street America Group/NGM Insurance and Patriot Insurance.

Dottie Chalmers Cutter - Vice-President, Operations, Chalmers Insurance Group
Dottie is the fourth generation of Chalmers to work in the family insurance business. Daughter of Bill Chalmers, she is from Bridgton and is a 2003 graduate of Bowdoin College.  She joined the agency in 2005 and is a licensed Maine Property & Casualty Insurance Agent working primarily with small to large business owners. In 2012, she became Personal Lines Manager and is now the Vice President of Operations, overseeing 85 employees in the areas of commercial lines, personal lines, and agency assistance. Dottie has a passion for increasing awareness about insurance as a career in hopes of attracting more young professionals. She works with local area high schools to promote Project InVEST and is responsible for the establishment and recruitment of Chalmers’ internship program. Other interests include skiing, traveling, and spending time with her husband and three young children.
